Barren Branches

Megan W.

  • Barren Branches is a poem I wrote about realizing a person you love is never coming back. I originally thought of the idea when reflecting on friendships and relationships I’ve had throughout my time in high school and how the people in your life are a constantly fluctuating thing. The poem doesn’t come to a happy end and is concluded with acceptance but not forgiveness which is something I have had to grapple with. Through writing this poem I got to explore feelings I didn’t even know I was feeling. I’m very proud of the lines I've written and the journey this poem follows.

  • When I write poetry it helps me express myself and see how my actions and feelings are impacting me. I think it allows me to look at myself and makes life more meaningful and helps me reflect on my actions and what's happening around me.
