Dishonesty

Jordyn G.

  • Dishonesty:

This solo is entitled Dishonesty. I created it for a competition piece but it is the most personal piece that I have done. The song speaks to love. My narrative is the unstable love that I receive from my biological father. He is in my life at times and disappears at others and I am fully trying to understand through therapy, conversations and my art why I am not good enough for his consistent love.

This is a lyrical dance piece meaning that I am utilizing shapes and foundations from modern, contemporary, ballet and Horton dance genres and using the choreography to emphasize the lyrics of the song. The creative process comes naturally to me most times when I connect to a song and a genuine emotion that I am exuding. I create the framework of the choreography and during subsequent sessions as my technique grows or I have different ideas, I may change small parts of the choreography. As a dancer and a choreographer, I believe that I am an athlete and my choreography will always use a diverse range of athletics dance "tricks" without compromising the integrity of the artistry.

This piece is close to my heart and I hope that you enjoy it.

  • Dance has saved my life. Since I was in 6th grade I have suffered from severe anxiety and depression and dance has been the constant in my life that allows me to move, create, imagine and be free. I feel my most whole when I am dancing and the process of sharing my art with others brings me joy.
