Sonata 8 by Mozart

Zen W.

  • The piece I performed in the video was the first movement to Mozart’s 8th Sonata. It took me around a month to learn and memorize. During the month, I’ve had lots of trouble trying to find exactly what Mozart wrote this piece for, other than the fact that he wrote it for his passed mother. There were little bits of happiness in the piece that I just couldn’t understand what it meant. Then I came to a realization that it was Mozart thinking of all the amazing times he’s had with his mother. And that really resinated with me. Nobody in my family has passed, but the thought of it is terrifying. This piece has really changed my perspective on Mozart, as well as my life. I think of my age as a one way ticket to greatness and happiness, so Mozart was almost telling me to make my younger days my better days. I’m only going to be a teenager for a few more years, so I need to make these years count. I’ve only been playing the piano for 4 years, but during these past couple of years, my life has truly been a journey. This piece really does piece these last couple of years together.

  • Expressing my creativity is like a gateway to expressing my feelings in such a way I just cannot express in words. Playing the piano brings joy to my ears, it gives me an indulging feeling of excitement when I’m to further more express myself with wooden keys.
