Birthdays

This is a poem about all the conflicting feelings people-all people, from young to old-can experience around their birthdays. Birthdays are a celebration, of life and of accomplishment. But what happens if you don’t feel accomplished? This piece, I think, expresses that. In times of hardship, it can often help to channel it through poetry or other forms of art. Writing, I think, is a way to express things that you may have hidden underneath, things that you may have not realized you were holding onto. You write all these things in the hope that you will not only help yourself, but help others, too. In a world where we so often feel alone, these words can be a beacon of hope.

Creativity comes and goes, at least for me. Sometimes I feel like I can write an entire book, while other times I stare at a blank document for what seems like hours. Creativity is something whimsical, almost magical, and once I am able to harness it, I will be unstoppable.
