Emergence

  • In my piece “Emergence,” I explore the idea of emerging from a fantasy world into reality. As a child, I used to read as a way to escape the challenges of reality, and now I apply what I read in fantasy to my life and see the complexities of it. I wanted to experiment with various media, so I cut out shapes like fish and unicorns out of a book. The deepest part of the ocean has unicorns, the middle has a snake, and the closest have koi fish. The unicorns represent fantasy while the snakes represent rebirth. The koi fish represent reality that is now seen in a positive light. They all circle around a person, emerged from the water. By connecting paper-craft, painting, and various creatures, I wanted to reflect on the process of emergence back into reality with new perspectives, inspired by fantasy.

  • Creativity means to portray myself in my artwork, enabling me to illustrate my thoughts, like my portrayal of the connections between the world of fantasy and reality. This allows me to tell my story in a way that others can relate to and build a deeper understanding of my viewpoint.
