Flowers of Apathy

This portrait is of a young woman, her face partially obscured by the shadow of flowers. The white flowers are meant to symbolize mourning and reflection, something conmmonly found in Chinese culture, hence the name ”Flowers of Apathy.” Blue is also a symbolic color to me, giving an air of melancholy. While painting this piece, I wished to convey how I felt about my future: uncertain, reflective, and mournful. The loss of my childhood and freedom became evident to me after entering high school, and I believe the unfeeling look on the young woman’s face captures what I experienced as it hit me that I can no longer say ”I’m just a kid.” The future is approaching rapidly and becoming realer with each second, yet I still mourn my carefree days of fun and games.

Creativity to me means the expression of whatever is on your mind, and the ability to produce something unique and original, while enjoying the process of creation. One should release all fear of judgement as they create, and anyone can be creative.
