Journey

Grace L.

  • ”Journey” is an ode to the people and things in life we hold dear. This piece, scored for string quartet, begins with an invitation from the viola and violin melody. Here, the underlying series of eighth notes add excitement and momentum, as if walking or skipping along. The cellist answers with a tender melody as if singing to a loved one, which is further responded to as all the musicians join in. As the tender and nostalgic moment fades away, the musicians are swept into an animated joyful dance-like refrain that builds with passion as each one joins in with a mixture of pizzicato and bowed passages. This refrain builds to a longingly majestic ”Appassionato” climax, and concludes in utmost peace and tranquility as the cello answers a violin melody from the introduction. I’d like to thank the performers, my music teachers, and all who support me.

  • To me, creativity is one made best by the collaboration and company of others. I focus mine on the exploration of goodness, beauty, and all of our emotions. Creativity to me means innovation and always striving to be better day by day.
