Map of South Asia and the Surrounding Countries

Collage and Acrylic Paint

  • When I first came up with the idea for my artwork, I envisioned my artwork as showing the unity between India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, with borders only being separated by a British flag. I wanted to express the ideas behind Partition, about how for thousands of years before the British came, all of South Asia lived in peace, and that Partition tore all of our countries up, but despite that, we are all one. However, after I finished the outline, I decided that my painting looked rather bland and I decided to add color to my skeleton. My idea morphed into adding the surrounding countries as well, to display the richness and diversity present in each individual country, and about how beautiful they all look when put together in perfect harmony. I wanted to represent my view of the world as well, as India is embroiled in territorial disputes.

  • When asked about my perspective on the topic of creativity, I respond that the definition of creativity varies from person to person as perspective is unique. To me, that is the literal definition of creativity, being unique. Out of perspective comes new ideas, and thus creativity.
