Raindrops

Alex M.

  • The first step I took was finding the right melody, and afterward, I came up with the main motif by figuring out what would feel right after the first three bars. I wrote the harmony using lots of extensions to make the chords sound richer and more beautiful. When it came time to pick instruments, I found the ones that I liked the most. The harp, flute, and piano were obvious choices, but after adding the cello, it felt a little lonely without the company of the violin and viola. While the song is very open to interpretation, I always meant it to be about the beauty of nature, from freshly fallen raindrops to the vastness of the cosmos.

  • To me, creativity is the ability to engage with multiple different artistic works and synthesize them into something that shares their unique experiences and perspective
