The Angels’ Voices

Kayi S.

  • “The Angels’ Voices” illustrates a beautiful picture of angels singing in harmony. The piece features the flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, alto saxophone, and piano. It starts with the flute and clarinet playing the theme, then the piano joins in playing the same theme as the flute and clarinet starts developing into the melodies of the song. Throughout the piece, this theme is continuously present as different instruments play it to create a peaceful atmosphere. The theme is layered by a polyphonic texture, which shows the perfect harmony between the angels’ melodic singing voices. The middle part is a lively tune describing the angels’ dance. The three main melody lines — the flute, clarinet and alto saxophone — each have a distinct voice while harmonizing with each other. Then, the music goes back to the harmonious singing of the angels and concludes as the flute and clarinet play the last duo melody.

  • Creativity means expressing myself in a unique way, and being confident about my ideas. In composing specifically, it is about letting the notes flow in my head without limits, and choosing the one that sounds the most natural to me. Everyone expresses themselves differently, so creativity also shows their identity.
