Ties To My Identity

When I think of Oregon, I can smell pine trees, the wildflowers in the fields, and the gray porch around the house I called home. Oregon is the place I feel most tied to in all of the world. There are many reasons for this, one being that I was born there. The memories exude this warmth that I can only explain as a feeling of belonging. The second reason was my brothers. My twin brothers were born on March 18th, hence the number 318 on the license plate. They died that same day. Their tiny bodies now lie together in the cemetery on the lush green hills of Portland. Each time I visit them, I think about the “what ifs” of life. I know that this tie I feel Oregon will always lead me back to them and the inevitable “what ifs” of the past.

Creativity means the ability to express ideas and parts of one’s life in any medium. I use creativity to write and draw about my life experiences, which helps me relate to others. Through my art, I feel I can speak to those who feel unable to express their emotions.
