My artwork represents the theme of how humans impact our watershed. In my drawing, I painted with watercolor. I painted a photo I took of the Bay Delta. This artwork took me about 2 months. I also created an iconography featuring two hands holding a fabric with the Mexican Aztec Calendar and Palestinian tatreez, a traditional fabric pattern. The artwork represents the unique designs of both countries, both made by hand. Aztec calendars were embroidered onto fabric after Spanish colonization to show resistance and preserve their culture. Tatreez, a hand-embroidered pattern, ties to centuries-old family names and Palestinian villages. The painting highlights the similarities between Palestine and Mexico’s indigenous people, who have faced colonization and struggled to maintain their culture. The connected design unifies shared resistance and creates solidarity in the face of genocide.
