Lasya Tandav
Lasya Tandav is a piece that explores the differences between a bold masculine energy (Tandav) and a soft feminine energy (Lasya). The piece finds a balance between power and grace to add subtle nuances and allow the dancer to explore both worlds.
Sleeves of Grace
Classical Chinese dance uses "water sleeves" for some of its loveliest expressions. Acting as extensions of a dancer's arms, these sleeves linger in the air long after a movement is finished. The effect is akin to fluttering wings or trailing ripples, a visual echo of the performer as she glides from one movement to the next.
Cry for Me
One day, a few weeks after school started, my friends and I were hanging out when someone brought up the idea of a dance competition. We had recently been bonding over our shared joy of dance, and what better way to experience it?
On the Nature of Daylight
My piece is about connections between different people of different backgrounds. I believe that we all have more in common than differences.
What Was I Made For?
This dance is an interpretation of the struggles of growing up. The lyrics stating, "what was I made for," is a relatable sentiment for many teenagers trying to find their way in the world.
Heartbreaker
Students collaborated in our Advanced Performance Dance group led by our senior Leilaney P.. Our journey in this artwork began with a shared love for dance, not only as a team but as a family. Our main goal in the creative process was to create joyful moments through choreography, allowing any audience to connect with the dancers.
Bitter Earth
The lyrics about aging in Dinah Washington's "This Bitter Earth" (Lord, this bitter earth, Yes, can be so cold, Today, you're young, Too soon, you're old) resonated with me while caring for my grandmother with Alzheimer's Disease the last few months.
Telephone
My process was very simple. First, I chose a song that matched my energy. I originally wanted to do a hip hop routine and then along the way, as I was choreographing, I figured out my style had some more jazzy elements. Those types of movements come very naturally to me and I personally believe that is where I can thrive.
This Woman's Work - Contemporary Piece
This piece is about the lives of working women dancers. These dancers struggle everyday to provide for themselves and to be able to keep doing the thing they love.
Exploration
I believe that an artists most valuable resource is exploration. Whether that be challenging yourself to explore a whole new area of your art form or trying to redefine something familiar. In dance, I find that when I take time to connect back to the purest form of movement, and really feel what it’s like to move is when I begin to create meaningful progress.
Your Gonna Miss Me
“Your Gonna Miss Me” is a piece about leaving the past behind and finally moving forward. This past year I graduated eighth grade and started my freshman year of high school. As I was experiencing all of these changes, dance was my outlet.
F Umean
This original choreography, which incorporates aspects of street dancing, was produced for a large-scale performance. When I created this, I wanted everyone to enjoy themselves while learning the fundamentals of street dancing, such grooves and textures, regardless of prior dance experience.
