Buried in Silence injects feelings of humanity into an issue that has inflicted wounds on many people–war. War is often portrayed by death tolls or a battle between two parties, but society often forgets about the civilians affected by war. In this piece, a mixture of dirt and acrylic paint creates an uneven surface that resembles the cracked concrete appearance of war rubble. The contrast between the images of individual eyes, hands, and an innocent child’s face and this rubble illustrates the feelings of isolation and hopelessness of those affected by war. Buried in Silence serves as a solemn reminder that within the sounds of bullets and explosions, there are unheard voices calling for help.

To me, creativity is using my imagination to illustrate the issues overlooked by our world. Art allows us to explore our identities, communities, and our society through the lenses of hope and change.
