Throughout my time as a violinist, I felt alienated from my peers, creating a standard in my mind to meet-- ashamed I did not practice as much or as strategically as others. However, as finals rolled around and we had to create a piece for art, I went back to my old house with my family to check on our loquat tree-- with light and sweet orange fruits which grow in China, never regularly found here. Being able to still pick and eat these fruits are strings connected to my childhood. By depicting my character born as a seed, I wanted to ”reincarnate” as a violinist, finding child-like joy in my craft again and going back to the roots of why I wanted to play.

Whatever brings curiosity. Say you were having a bad day when rain poured. What could you do about feeling down and drenched? How can you depict, say, distress in a painting? What materials, like rainwater from soaked clothes could be added? What do brushstrokes say about how weary you are?
